Give your Earth Soles a New Life

We're sorry to hear you've worn a hole in your Earth Soles! The good news is that leather is naturally repairable, so with a little love and care, your Earth Soles can be ready for many more adventures.

What you'll need

  • A piece of strong leather (new or an offcut) that is about 2 cm larger than the hole — or large enough to cover the entire sole if you wish to add a new sole. If you choose to add a new layer to the sole, we recommend doing both the left and right sides for balance.

  • Good quality contact glue

  • Sandpaper

  • A hammer (or another heavy object)

  • A hairdryer or heat gun (optional, but recommended for a stronger bond)
     

Instructions​

  1. Cut this new leather sole approximately 1–2 cm larger than the hole or existing sole.

  2. Clean the part you want to glue, either 2 cm around the hole, or if you so wish the entire bottom of the sole. Make it rougher with sandpaper.

  3. Apply contact glue evenly to both surfaces, paying extra attention to the edges. Apply the glue neither too thick nor too thin. Wait for the glue to get tacky.

  4. Heat both glued surfaces for about 5 seconds using a hairdryer or heat gun, and keep about 20 cm distance from the leather.

  5. Carefully put the new leather on top of the hole or soles of the shoes.

  6. Hammer on the newly placed leather, paying extra attention to the edges.

  7. Leave the shoe under heavy weight for 6–12 hours.

  8. If you have chosen to add a whole new sole, carefully trim away the excess leather following the original shape of the sole.
     

If you just added leather to a hole, this extra leather might feel odd for the first couple of days due to the added thickness, but it will wear in. Enjoy your new Earth Soles!
